Dodgy Indian ex-NSW cop jailed for arson and bestiality videos

A dodgy former NSW Police officer has been jailed for long list of offences including arson, possessing bestiality material, and perverting the course of justice.

Kritan Vimal Vikash Kutti, 36, faced Albury District Court on Thursday where he was sentenced to three-and-a-half years’ jail with a non-parole period of two years by Judge Justin Smith.

The former Oaklands Police Station lockup keeper consistently maintained his innocence before pleading guilty to a string of charges in October last year, The Border Mail reported.

Kutti was charged with perverting the course of justice after setting a Mazda on fire in April 2023 and making a false car theft report to police. He was caught after a strike force was formed to investigate vehicles suspiciously destroyed by fire in the region.

During the investigation his unit in Sydney was raided and his phone seized, and police then found 16 bestiality videos and evidence of more crimes, leading to extra charges.

He was charged with publishing protected information for sharing bodyworn camera footage he took while working at the Oaklands lockup, including a clip posted on Snapchat of a woman having a mental health episode, and four others of incidents he had attended, including deaths.

Kutti was also charged with firearms offences over two other videos found on his phone, one showing a woman wearing his police uniform and using his Glock handgun, and the other showing him firing an assault rifle-style gel blaster.

The woman in the video was later identified as a person undertaking police training via distance education.

Kutti’s lawyers argued their client had been deeply affected by being on duty when a baby was found in a freezer in Corowa in 2022, but Judge Smith noted while Kutti was diagnosed with PTSD and depression there was no evidence he was unaware of what he was doing when he committed his offences, ABC News reported.

The court also heard Kutti had found working in a rural town challenging and had requested a transfer to Sydney five times for personal reasons, but had rejected a temporary position closer to his family.
