Representative Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, faced outrage and condemnation from MAGA influencers and Republicans after she made a post this week referencing President Donald Trump as the “leader of the Pedophile Protection Party,” and saying that her native country of Somalia would “execute pedophiles not elect them.”
“If she likes Somalia so much, she should go back to Somalia, and I can tell you,” Representative James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, told NewsNation.

Omar’s Tuesday post came in response to an interview in which Trump attacked her native country and blasted the representative and other Somali immigrants, whom his Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has targeted in recent months in Minnesota as part of a nationwide immigration crackdown.
“What they’ve done to our country, these people—they’ve come into our country, and what they’ve done with that fake congresswoman. She’s so bad,” Trump told Fox Business.
In response, the progressive Democrat shot back on X, writing: “The leader of the Pedophile Protection Party is trying to deflect attention from his name being all over the Epstein files. At least in Somalia they execute pedophiles not elect them.”

The Republican National Committee Research account posted on X: “Ilhan Omar casually calls for President Trump to be executed. She also claims Somalia — where she is from — treats pedophiles harshly. Somalia has one of the highest child marriage rates in the world with over 15% marrying before they turn fifteen.”
A 2025 UNICEF report says Somalia has one of the highest rates of child marriage, stating that “nearly 45 percent of Somali girls are married before the age of 18, significantly higher than the global average.”
