Around 500 demonstrators gathered in the Belgian city of Leuven on Thursday evening for a “remigration” march organised by the Nationalist Students’ Association (NSV), drawing a large far-left counter-protest and a heavy police presence.
The demonstration, held under the slogan “Save our nation, remigration!”, was attended by Vlaams Belang leader Tom Van Grieken, alongside right-wing activists from Italy and Switzerland, who reportedly viewed the event as part of a wider struggle against so-called “ethnic replacement.”
According to De Morgen, some demonstrators chanted “Ausländer raus” and “Deutschland den Deutschen” as they marched through the city.
Roughly 600 far-left counter-demonstrators assembled to oppose the march, repeatedly attempting to block its route as it moved through the Flemish Brabant city.
Tensions escalated into clashes between demonstrators and counter-protesters, prompting police intervention. Local reports said the march was repeatedly halted.
Police initially confirmed that at least ten counter-protesters had been arrested, with later reports suggesting the figure rose to around 20. Injuries were also reported following the unrest, and fireworks were allegedly thrown during the clashes.
Footage circulating on X shows large crowds moving through the city streets, with Flemish flags.
