A Victoria Police officer has been granted bail despite being charged with serious child sex offences.
The Protective Service Officer, 68, was charged with sexual assault of a child under 16 and possess and produce child abuse material.
The charges were laid following an internal investigation, police said on Monday, and it is alleged the offences occurred between November 2025 and May 2026 while the officer was off-duty.
The officer was released on bail to appear at a magistrate’s court on a future date.
Protective Services Officers patrol Victoria’s public transport system and train stations, work at major events, and maintain security at courts and government buildings, and also deal with anti-social behaviour, property damage, alcohol and transport-related offences.
