US sanctions Cuba for backing ‘third-worldists’ and far-left terror

The US has slapped sanctions on five Cuban entities it says are helping the country’s Marxist regime spread toxic far-left ideology and “third-worldism” across the globe.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the sanctions on Friday while declaring Cuba is the left-wing terrorism capital of the world, and warning sanctions would apply to anyone providing services to the five entities.

The entities listed are the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (MINFAR), the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), state-run tourism company Amistur Cuba S.A, Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), and Minera La Victoria S.A.

ICAP, which was founded by Fidel Castro in 1960 and works closely with far-left US activist groups, helped organise a convoy to Havana in March joined by left-wing extremist streamer Hasan Piker and Isra Hirsi, the daughter of antiwhite Somalian Muslim Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

“For decades, Cuba has been the world capital for radical left-wing terrorism. The regime in Havana has recruited, trained and backed violent Marxist and third-worldist movements across our hemisphere and beyond,” Mr Rubio said.

“Today, we are targeting the network that enables and funds Cuba’s subversive and radical operations.

“The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate radical Marxist regimes in our hemisphere seeking to threaten US national security and engage in influence operations to export their poisonous and evil ‘revolution’ to our country and around the world.”

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel responded to the sanctions by accusing the US trying to raise tensions between the two countries.

“The Treasury Department has added new names of Cuban leaders, organizations and companies to an illegitimate sanctions list,” Díaz-Canel said.

“They are aimed at reinforcing the blockade measures and the scenario of conflict between Cuba and the United States.”
