Outrage as cop arrests and ‘unarrests’ anti-abortion protester: ‘On a power trip’

A “power-tripping” female cop has arrested and “unarrested” a polite Christian anti-abortion protester in Brisbane, sparking fury from everyday Aussies.

The protesters, from a group called Ambassadors for Christ, filmed themselves standing in front of the office of Liberal National Party MP Tim Nicholls, the Queensland Health Minister, in Clayfield on May 29, but only shared the footage on Monday.

One demonstrator, a man named Jarryn, held a large sign saying “we are ambassadors of Jesus Christ”, while another was wearing a T-shirt which said “abolish abortion”, which the female officer told him “could be considered offensive to members of the public”.

The video shows the officer moving their camera tripod and telling Jarryn he was “committing an offence of public nuisance” before suddenly saying “you’re under arrest”.

“You’re disrupting these people’s peaceful passage to access this business,” he told him.

She then asked a series of questions, and told the other demonstrator he was “obstructing my investigation” when he asked whether they were required to answer.

“You’re going to be obstructing me, if you continue obstructing our investigation you’ll be arrested, okay?” she told him.

She told him again that his shirt was “offensive”, and when he said he was just expressing his political opinions, she said the protesters’ T-shirts and signs could offend people visiting a nearby medical centre or pharmacy.

“Obviously there’s a medical clinic down the road where people seek health facilities, and a pharmacy where people can access abortion medicines, can you see how that would be considered offensive, where people are accessing their right to have healthcare?” she asked.

“You’re literally within 50 metres of somewhere where people access medication.”

But after speaking with three other officers she told Jarryn he was no longer under arrest, but said the group would be banned from the area.

“Okay so basically you’re unarrested at this time,” she said.

“You’re all going to be getting a move-on direction, so you won’t be able to come back here for a period of 24 hours, and if you contravene that then you’ll be arrested.”

Jarryn told Noticer News he stood by his actions outside the MP’s office, and said false rumours were circulating that it took place outside an abortion clinic.

“The reason for the arrest, was not because I did anything wrong, it was because they didn’t like what we were saying nor who our authority was,” he said.

“We can say abortion is murder because we have a justification for that statement, provided by our Christian worldview. Abortion is murder, but forgiveness for murder can be found in Christ.

“Christ is King, he is sovereign over Australia. Every knee will bow, the question is, when will your knee bow? God will abolish the murder of 90,000 Australians, Christians shall flood parliament, the culture, the high courts. They will not be able to stop us, because our banner is Christ’s and he is our true King.”

The video sparked outrage on Instagram, where many commenters said police should not be spending time policing so-called offensive behaviour.

“She would do well in the UK police force. Go and police real crimes,” wrote political commentator Joel Jammal.

“Disgusting actions from the clearly biased female officer. Just because you find something offensive doesn’t mean you can silence it. Is she aware that I find baby murder offensive? Can I silence her now? If the left didn’t have double standards, they’d have no standards,” wrote Based Brando.

“Someone is on a power trip,” said another.

“Insisting you are obstructing the entrance while 6 of them obstruct the entrance is insane. That was embarrassing to watch and unprofessional conduct from that female police officer. This could have been handled very differently. Well done for keeping calm and respectful,” another wrote.
