A senior Victoria Police officer has been charged with a sex offence allegedly committed while he was on duty.
The 40-year-old senior constable from the state’s Southern Metro Region, which covers Melbourne’s south-eastern and bayside suburbs and the Mornington Peninsula, has been charged with one count of sexual exposure.
Police said on Monday the incident allegedly occurred on April 24 while the officer was on duty, but said he was not in uniform or performing police duties at the time.
He was charged on summons to appear before a magistrates court at a later date, meaning he was not required to apply for bail and is able to live in the community without conditions while awaiting his court appearance.
It is unclear whether he has been suspended.
The charge of sexual exposure, previously called indecent or obscene exposure, relates to the wilful exposure of a person’s genitals in public, and is punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment.
