Kosovar man arrested after knife attack in Germany injures three, including 12-year-old girl

A man, believed to be a Kosovar national, has been arrested in Germany after three people were injured during a knife attack in a residential area of Halle on Sunday evening.

One adult victim suffered serious injuries, while another and a 12-year-old girl were also hurt in the attack.

All three victims were taken to the hospital.

The attack occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. near an apartment building on An der Magistrale in the Halle-Neustadt district. A police spokesman confirmed to Bild that a dispute had taken place before the stabbing, reportedly concerning the volume of children playing outside the building.

An eyewitness told the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung that he saw the man attacking several children with a large knife as they sat at the entrance of the building.

Authorities have not released information about the ages of the other children or whether the victims were specifically targeted.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the attack and taken away from the building by officers. According to Bild, he is a man of Kosovar origin, though it remains unclear whether he or the victims lived in the building.

The knife used in the assault was recovered at the scene.

Police cordoned off the area and deployed a large number of officers to secure the site and gather evidence. The criminal investigation department began questioning witnesses on Sunday evening.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
