10 People Were Shot in Little River Sunday Night, Police Say. Some Are in Critical Condition.

Investigators are hunting for suspects after a Memorial Day weekend boat cruise ended with a late-night shooting that sent 11 people to area hospitals from this fishing village, according to Horry County Police.

Ten people had gunshot wounds; another had an injury unrelated to the gunfire in the May 25 episode, according to a police news release. None of those injured had died, though some were said to be in critical but stable condition. No arrests had been made in the case by late afternoon on May 26.

“Thus far, the investigation indicates that the shooting was an isolated event that resulted from an altercation during a private Memorial Day weekend gathering on a charter boat,” the release said. “Detectives continue to work to identify the person or persons responsible for the incident.”

Part of unincorporated Horry County, Little River is a picturesque community that sits off Highway 17 between North Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina border. {snip}

Shortly after a party boat had docked along the stretch, an argument started that led to the gunfire, said Horry County Police Department spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov. Some of those injured had already gotten off the boat. Others were still aboard, she said, though it’s unclear exactly where the shooter was located.
