Senegalese migrant arrested after stabbing street cleaner in Cambrils over noise from a blower

A Senegalese migrant has been arrested in the Spanish town of Cambrils after allegedly stabbing a 47-year-old street cleaner in the head and chest, reportedly because he was annoyed by the noise from a leaf blower. The incident took place shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday along Diputació Avenue.

According to sources from the Local Police of Cambrils, the victim, a worker contracted by the cleaning company Secomsa, was operating a blower outside the Apartaments Internacional building when the assailant confronted him.

As reported by Diari de Tarragona, the situation escalated into a violent assault in which the worker was stabbed multiple times. Witnesses say the attacker, who was seen leaving the apartment complex moments before, reacted aggressively after voicing his annoyance at the noise.

The attacker fled the scene following the assault, sparking a chase that ended on Valencia Street in the nearby town of Salou. A second Secomsa employee, who witnessed the attack, alerted a Local Police patrol and joined the pursuit. The police were assisted by the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan regional police, who deployed units to the area and ultimately helped arrest the suspect.

Authorities say the man attempted to hide in a flat believed to be occupied by members of the Top Manta network — informal street vendors, often undocumented migrants, who sell goods along the Cambrils seafront. This has led investigators to suspect that the detainee may be part of that group, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The victim was transported to Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona with serious injuries and significant blood loss. Medical sources say he remains in serious condition but is stable and out of immediate danger.

Initially treated as a case of assault, the investigation has now been reclassified as an attempted homicide. The Cambrils City Council confirmed that the arrested man, who is 38 years old, does not reside in the city. The motive for his presence in Cambrils and the reason for his violent reaction remain unclear.

The investigation is now being led by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
