Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the Israeli Defense Forces had launched a sweeping military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
Dubbed Operation Rising Lion, the preemptive assault struck multiple key sites across Iran in the early hours of Friday morning, including nuclear facilities in Natanz, missile infrastructure, and scientific personnel reportedly linked to Tehran’s weapons program.
“This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat,” Netanyahu said. “We struck at the heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment and weaponization programs… This is a clear and present danger to Israel’s very survival.”
Moments ago, Israel launched Operation “Rising Lion”, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival.

Citing intelligence that Iran had amassed sufficient highly enriched uranium for nine atomic bombs and was actively weaponizing it, Netanyahu warned that Israel could not afford to wait. He compared the situation to the West’s failure to prevent World War II, saying, “The hardest decision any leader has to make is to thwart a danger before it is fully materialized… Never again is now.”
Israel’s military confirmed it carried out dozens of precision airstrikes with fighter jets overnight, describing the attack as a “precise and integrated preemptive” operation based on “high-quality intelligence.” The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) emphasized that Iran’s regime has long orchestrated regional terrorism through proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza, and was closer than ever to obtaining nuclear weapons. “The State of Israel has a duty to act to protect its citizens and will continue to do so,” it said in a statement.

While Israel insisted the targets were strategic and military, Iranian state media has reported claims of civilian casualties, including women and children, as well as the deaths of senior military officials.

Iran’s military issued a stark warning in response, “This assault resulted in the martyrdom and injury of our dear compatriots. The response of your soldiers… will be crushing and regret-inducing.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while reiterating Washington’s longstanding alliance with Israel, distanced the United States from the operation. “We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” he said, noting that Israel had advised Washington in advance and justified the action as self-defense.
In Brussels, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed grave concern and called for immediate de-escalation. “Europe urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint… A diplomatic resolution is now more urgent than ever,” she wrote.
Another elite double standard:
“Diplomacy is urgent—for regional stability and global security.”
Sounds good. So why not with Russia and Ukraine?
You slammed @PM_ViktorOrban for trying exactly that. https://t.co/RKCxn1YrpL

However, her remarks were met with sharp criticism, including by former Dutch MEP Rob Roos, who accused EU leaders of hypocrisy: “You slammed Viktor Orbán for trying exactly that with Russia. Another elite double standard.”
