Three men have been stabbed in a frightening clash between rival African gangs outside a Melbourne Airbnb that was so bloody fire trucks had to be called in to hose down homes and footpaths.
The violence erupted between two groups of men in a normally quiet street in Clyde in the city’s southeast at about 2.15am on Sunday, and at least one gunshot can be heard in disturbing security camera footage of the mayhem.
About 15 minutes later three men turned up at Casey Hospital with suspected knife wounds – a 25-year-old Noble Park man, a 25-year-old Narre Warren man and a 23-year-old Cranbourne South man – and all were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Victoria Police then seized the car of a 23-year-old man from Clyde North who is believed to have driven the three injured men to hospital, and police are now investigating the incident.
CCTV footage obtained by Nine News shows large groups of men shouting and running in the street during the fight, which lasted for half an hour.
A resident’s ute was also hit by a car belonging to one of the gangs.
Neighbours said there had been multiple parties at the Airbnb over the weekend, but on Sunday morning the house was cordoned off with police tape and firefighters were washing blood stains off streets and driveways.
“It’s pretty scary because everyone’s pretty good, all neighbours are pretty peaceful, very good to live,” one resident said.
The brawl comes after machetes were banned from sale in Victoria after a spate of alleged African gang attacks in Melbourne.
At least six African men have died violently in the city this year alone, including a Somalian man who was shot by police in Footscray after charging at them with a knife in April.
Days earlier 21-year-old Sudanese man Giew Ter Tuol was allegedly stabbed to death in Endeavour Hills, and a day before that another African man, 36, was allegedly fatally stabbed in Ascot Vale.
In March Sudanese man Timothy Leek, 24, was allegedly hacked to death by a group of other African men with machetes in Lyndhurst, in February Congolese man Nathan Mwanza, 23, was allegedly stabbed to death in Wyndham Vale, and in January Sudanese man Lino Atem, 24, was allegedly stabbed to death just 500 metres from where Mwanza was killed.
