Nationalist activist calls on Aussies to boo Anzac Day ‘welcome to countries’

A prominent nationalist activist has called on patriotic Australians to boo any “welcome to country” ceremonies performed at Anzac Day dawn services on Saturday.

Jacob Hersant, a former leader of the now-disbanded National Socialist Network, made the statement in a video posted to his Telegram channel on Thursday night where he said the far-left was disrespecting soldiers by hijacking Anzac Day to make it about “antiwhite aboriginal grievance politics”.

Mr Hersant was arrested at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance on April 25 last year for allegedly booing during the “welcome to country”, and was charged in September with “offensive behaviour” along with other well-known ex-NSN members Nathan Bull and Michael Nelson.

“Attend this year’s Anzac Day Dawn Service. If they do a welcome to country again, boo it,” Mr Hersant said in his video.

“If the 90% of the country who hate this humiliation ritual are too scared to defend the honour of fallen soldiers, then we are unworthy of being their heirs.”

He said he doubted he would be allowed to enter the Shrine this year and said he expected there would be hundreds of police officers deployed to prevent him and other former NSN members from booing.

“Policemen will be watching for last year’s booers, rather than terrorists, which makes sense when you consider terrorism only kills a few pedestrians, whereas booing is a heresy against the government’s sacred idol of aboriginality,” he said.

“Unfortunately, you cannot rely upon me to be there booing it again, you will have to find some courage and boo the traitors yourself instead of waiting for others to do it for you. Do not stay passive as the memory of the men who died for this country is disrespected.

“These traitors have politicised a national day and made it about antiwhite aboriginal grievance politics, so don’t whine about the brave men fighting politics with politics – we ought to keep disrupting this disgrace until the vermin stop disrespecting soldiers.

“Some of those soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. What stops you from giving far less to protect their memory from mockery? Honour them, and boo the welcome to country at this year’s Anzac Day Dawn Service.”

Mr Hersant, Mr Bull and Mr Nelson are accused of being among those who began booing when professional aboriginal Mark Brown welcomed the 50,000-strong crowd to their own country at the Shrine last year.

Voices could be heard on the live TV broadcast shouting “what about the Anzacs”, “we don’t have to be welcomed”, and “this is our country” as Brown talked at length about the “Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation”.

The booing sparked a nationwide debate about “welcome to country” ceremonies, and a subsequent poll – the largest ever conducted on the issue – found that seven out of 10 Aussies want them “completely stopped”.

Other Australians have voted to wear green or yellow ribbons to support war hero Ben Roberts-Smith, who was last week released on bail after being charged with alleged war crimes, sparking nationwide outrage.

Roberts-Smith told The Australian on Thursday he would attend a dawn service despite the controversy surrounding his arrest.

“Anzac Day is sacred to me and every other veteran. I will be attending to pay my respects and I encourage everyone else to,” he said.
