Renter told to take down her Australian flag due to ‘target’ fears

A Sydney renter has revealed she was told to take down an Australian flag because the owner was worried it would make the house a “target”.

The young woman, named Breeanah O’Brien, recounted the experience in a Facebook video where she asked when it had become illegal to be proud to be Australian, and said in a comment the flag had been hanging from a front window sill with pegs since Australia Day.

Ms O’Brien said she was asked remove the flag by a real estate agent during a routine home inspection, and that she doubted a similar request would have been made it if was a “pride” or Palestine flag.

“Since when has it become illegal to have an Australian flag up in Australia?” she asked.

“[The real estate agent] proceeded to tell me that she doesn’t have an issue with it, it’s whatever, but the owner believes by having it up, our house might become a target.

“All I could think in the back of my head was ‘I could almost guarantee, if that was a rainbow flag for Pride Month or if it was a Palestine flag, there is no way we’d be asked to take it down and there is no way that she would be getting up there herself to take it down’.”

The video sparked anger from other Aussies, with some telling her she should move out in protest.

“This is so disappointing. Our neighbour has a memorial for veterans with an Australian flag flying on his front lawn. You should not be a target to have pride in our nation,” wrote one woman.

“This is what our ‘woke’ leaders have done to our country..everything is OK for immigrants/aboriginals/ marginal religions/trans .. but be a proud White Australian and you are not allowed to show it. If we don’t stop this crap we WILL lose Australia to these woke idiots!” said another.

“Disgusting! I wouldn’t have taken it down! Change houses if need be we are in a beautiful country & be proud. If we cannot express ourselves freedom of speech then they have the problem!” said a third.

The incident comes as Aussies across the country push back at far-left efforts to remove the Australian flag from public spaces, with Maitland Council in NSW this year giving away free flags for residents to hang from their homes in order to restore national pride.
