Hunt for ‘Pacific Islander’ after alleged road rage attack on elderly man

An elderly man has allegedly been attacked with a golf club after his car rammed during a road rage incident in an outer suburb of Melbourne.

Victoria Police said the 61-year-old was driving through roadworks on the Melton Highway in Sydenham, between Banchory Avenue and Calder Park Drive, at about 12pm on Saturday when the incident unfolded.

His car was allegedly rammed from behind numerous times, causing him to pull over once he was out of the roadworks zone.

The other driver then allegedly got out of his vehicle armed with a golf club, struck the victim in the leg and smashed his windscreen before driving off.

The alleged victim, who is from Caroline Springs, was taken to hospital with severe bruising, while his vehicle was left undriveable and was towed from the scene.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives on Monday released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with enquiries.

“The man is perceived to be of Pacific Islander descent, about 180 cm tall and heavy set, wearing a red long-sleeve top, dark-coloured shorts and thongs,” police said.
