Hoax Confirmed: A Semitic Student Scrawls Swastikas (2007)

Let’s cast our minds back to October in the year 2007 – when this author was a hell of a lot younger and a lot more wet behind the ears regarding the jewish question – to a spate of ‘anti-Semitic vandalism’ that was plaguing George Washington University in Washington D.C. These involved swastikas being drawn in various places – usually on the doors and noticeboards of jewish students – at the university, its associated buildings and residences, but which principally targeted a jewish student named Sarah Marshak, who was also a reporter on the university’s student newspaper.

As the ‘George Washington Hatchet’ – the university’s student newspaper – wrote at the time:

‘When freshman Sarah Marshak glanced at the whiteboard mounted to her residence hall door Tuesday evening, she expected to find notes from friends, not a swastika.

Marshak, also a Hatchet Reporter, immediately informed her house proctor when she saw the offensive symbol and her house proctor contacted the University Police Department. As of press time, Marshak was not sure if UPD had identified the individual responsible for drawing the symbol nor was UPD available for comment.

In an interview with The Hatchet Wednesday night, Marshak, who is Jewish, said she is still in shock about the drawing, although this was not the first time she said she has been affected by anti-Semitism.

“I’ve heard it (at GW), in Florida and on a trip to Poland, too,” Marshak said of her experiences with anti-Semitism.

Marshak added she does not believe the symbol was meant as a personal attack but as one waged on the Jewish community. She also likened the drawing to other forms of racism.

“It may just be a symbol to some, but not to those in the Jewish community,” Marshak said. “It holds incredible meaning to us. This would be like someone drawing a noose on the door of someone who was black.”

A member of First Year Students of Hillel, Marshak said she also contacted the organization but hopes she will not be branded by the symbol.

“I spoke to Hillel, but I don’t want it to go that far. I don’t want to be known as ‘the swastika girl,’” she said.

Freshman Mindy Michaels, a close friend of Marshak and also a member of Hillel, was appalled by the symbol and how someone could consider this a joke.

“I’m shocked that at a place like GW, where people are supposed to be smart, someone would resort to drawing a symbol of hate,” Michaels said.

She added that the campus community should know about the drawing and the effect it can have on the Jewish community.

“People should realize that this isn’t a joke to many people, especially those Jewish students,” Michaels said. “We (in the Jewish community) all gain from each others feelings regarding anti-Semitism and people need to know this is not acceptable.”’ (1)

Notice how the Marshak immediately began generalizing the swastikas as an ‘attack on the jewish community’ as a whole and not just here and how all the usual carping about ‘rising anti-Semitism’ – note how this never ever changes and how even in what are now described as periods of ‘record low anti-Semitism’ at the time the jews were still shrieking about ‘rising anti-Semitism’ – (2) comes from the jewish community more broadly with no one disagreeing with Marshak’s unevidenced claim.

However, the University Police Department (hereafter UPD) had set a trap for the perpetrator by putting up a hidden camera to monitor the main target: Marshak’s dorm room door.

The result was predictable and hilarious as JTA explained circa two weeks after the above article in the ‘George Washington Hatchet’:

‘A Jewish college student who reported swastikas on her dorm door drew some of them herself.

Sarah Marshak, a George Washington University freshman, was caught on tape by a hidden video camera in the sixth incident of swastika drawing on her dormitory door.

Marshak told the university’s student newspaper that she drew the last three of the six swastikas.

“I wasn’t looking to create this, sort of, insanity,” Marshak told The Hatchet, where she works as a reporter. “I wasn’t looking to become a media darling. I was just looking for acknowledgment from University that someone drew a swastika on the door.”

Marshak could face federal charges. She will appear before the Student Judicial Services.

Nine incidents of swastika painting took place on the campus in a two-week period.

Another student was caught and charged Saturday with drawing swastikas and racial slurs in another dormitory. He has been barred from campus.’ (3)

Basically, Marshak was caught red-handed drawing the swastikas on her dorm room door by UPD’s hidden camera and there was no-where for Marshak to pivot other than to claim she ‘only drew three of the six swastikas’ on her door when the truth is almost certainly is that she drew all six of the swastikas and the other three – drawn elsewhere on campus – we are told were drawn by an unnamed male student – probably jewish too given the fact that they suddenly don’t even mention anti-Semitism in the JTA article – who was identified but not named.

What did Marshak? Did she take responsibility?

Oh no: she claimed she was trying to – in effect – ‘promote awareness about the swastikas on campus’ which is complete and utter nonsense given – as we’ve already said – Marshak was quite prepared to let someone else or just nebulous ‘non-jewish jew-haters among the student body’ – take the blame for them and clearly never intended to disclose that she was faking the whole thing to do with swastikas on her door.

This is why you never trust a jew my friends: even if they get caught get red-handed with clear video footage, they will still try to make it your fault.
