Support for Australia Day on January 26 is growing, and is driven by young Australians despite a government campaign trying to undermine the national day, a new poll has found.
According to a poll by by independent marketing research firm Dynata for conservative think tank the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA), 76% of Australians are in favour of Australia Day being held on January 26, up from 69% last year and 63% in 2024.
For those aged 18 to 24, 83% are in support, almost double the 42% who gave the same answer in 2024. 88% of all Australians said they were proud to be Australian, which rose to 90% among the youngest age bracket.
Just 10% of all Australians oppose the date, down from 14% last year and 17% in 2024, while only 4% of young Australians now oppose it, down from 23% in 2025, and 30% a year earlier.

Daniel Wild, Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs, said the results showed the “divisive debate” about when to hold the national day was now over.
“Australia is the greatest country on earth, and mainstream Australians are no longer afraid to say it, despite the threat of being cancelled by radical activists and the elites,” Mr Wild said.
“This polling confirms what mainstream Australians have always known: January 26 is Australia day – always was, always will be.
“Over the past 12 months Australians have witnessed the decline of social cohesion on our streets and in our communities, as well as the unspeakable tragedy of what happened at Bondi Beach. Religious and ethnic division, formerly so foreign to our nation, is now a daily fact of life.”
The results come despite Labor pumping $1.5 million into the Australian Research Council to undermine Australia Day via podcasts school materials and policies produced by the Australian National University.
“The federal government should be ashamed of itself that at a time when it has presided over a collapse in social cohesion, and when mainstream Australians are saying louder than ever that they want Australia Day on 26 January, that millions of taxpayer dollars are still being wasted trying to divide us,” Mr Wild said.
“It is again a reminder that if we do not continue to fight for Australia Day, we will lose it.”
