Truck driver on the run after horror crash on Melbourne freeway

A truck driver is on the run after slamming into another vehicle on a busy Melbourne freeway and fleeing the scene of the crash.

The collision caused the much smaller second truck to roll on the Monash Freeway in Glen Waverley just before 3pm on Monday afternoon, and left the 38-year-old driver from Hampton Park seriously hurt.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria and taken to hospital for his injuries, which are not life-threatening.

The other truck, believed to be a semi-trailer, continued driving after the crash, which occurred near the Springvale Road exit, and police are now trying to track down the drive, 9News reported.

Footage of the scene shows emergency services placing the injured man onto a stretcher next to the crumpled wreckage of his truck, and debris strewn across the side of the freeway.

The hit-and-run collision caused multiple lanes to be shut down, resulting in an 11km traffic jam and long peak hour delays.
