Homosexual paedophile jailed for showing child abuse material in Sydney gay sex club

A homosexual paedophile methamphetamine addict has been jailed for two years for showing other men child abuse material at a Sydney gay sex and kink club.

Mark Ungaro, 43, a former hotel manager, was arrested at The Bunker in Darlinghurst on October 17, 2023, after a patron he showed the material to called police.

When officers arrived at the club, which calls itself the “ultimate fetish playspace for men”, they found Ungaro in the toilets trying to delete files from his mobile phone, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Police later discovered child abuse material too graphic to describe, and he was charged with possessing bestiality material, and possessing and transmitting child abuse material.

Ungaro pleaded guilty and was sentenced in the NSW District Court on Friday by Judge Siobhan Herbert, who found he had guarded prospects of rehabilitation and had failed to seek professional help, telling the court: “I cannot be satisfied that he will not commit further offences.”

The court heard a psychologist said in a report Ungaro’s offending was linked to his struggles to deal with and hide his homosexuality, and diagnosed him with paedophilia.

Ungaro had claimed he wasn’t sexually interested in children or animals and had accessed the material out of curiosity, but when asked in court by prosecutors whether he accepted the psychologist’s findings he did he did.

The court heard Ungaro started smoking methamphetamine while in his late 20s, but his drug use and extreme sexual behaviour then grew exponentially.

He used homosexual dating app Grindr to find “puff and play” sex partners, and accessed child abuse and bestiality material while on multi-day drug binges, the court heard.
