As countless news stories and viral clips have revealed, asking someone to turn down their music in Europe is an increasingly dangerous proposition.
One of the latest cases involved a North African migrant who unleashed extreme violence against a 74-year-old woman and her husband in the Spanish city of Bilbao.
On Friday afternoon last week at 3:50 p.m., the young man who has a North African background and an extensive police record was reportedly blasting music inside a public elevator at Plaza de la Encarnación and Zabalbide Street in the Santutxu neighborhood. The couple asked him to turn down his stereo, to which he replied: “You are a woman and you cannot give me orders,” and began insulting the woman.
When the victim’s husband stepped in to protect his wife, the attacker escalated his aggression, according to El Correo news outlet.
He pushed the woman in the elevator and then pushed her out of elevator and on to the ground, breaking the woman’s collarbone.
He then turned his attention to the husband, putting him in a rear naked chokehold, which cut off the man’s air supply and nearly led him to losing consciousness.
The woman tried to call the police from the ground when the North African allegedly grabbed her phone and threw it into nearby bushes before she could connect with emergency services.

Local residents quickly contacted the Ertzaintza and the Bilbao municipal police, with officers discovering the couple laying on the ground with severe injuries.
The husband suffered injuries to his mouth, nose, and arm, while his wife was left barely able to speak due to the intense pain from her fall.

Both victims were urgently transported to Basurto Hospital, where medical staff confirmed the woman’s fracture and ran tests on the husband to assess internal damage from the choking and beating.
Officers located and arrested the suspect not far from the crime scene and quickly ascertained he is a suspect with a high rate of criminal activity, including cases involving violent assault. Just last month, he assaulted a man who declined to provide him with a cigarette.
However, despite his history and the severe assault, the man was provisionally released after appearing before a judge.
This legal decision has sparked anger among local residents and social media users, and illustrates the growing insecurity brought on by lax judicial decisions across Europe. Local residents are calling for stricter legal consequences for repeat offenders, especially those targeting vulnerable victims.
Remix News has covered numerous cases involving individuals facing severe assault and threats due to asking people to turn down their music. The trend has coincided with increasing insecurity in European and Western trains and buses.
Popular YouTuber Asmongold has called for people, or “animals,” who “crash out” over being told to turn down their music to simply be arrested and institutionalized.
