On the evening of Thursday, June 18, 2026, tragedy struck when a 37-year-old mother returned from grocery shopping with her 3-month-old son and discovered he had been abducted after leaving him alone in his stroller outside her building in Renningen.
She had left the baby — who has been called Gino in some reports to protect his real identity — alone in his stroller outside their apartment building on Malmsheimer Straße in Renningen while she carried groceries upstairs to the second floor. When she returned shortly afterward, Gino was gone — the stroller remained, but the child had been taken.
A Romanian man was convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl from a German water park.
Now, German newspaper Bild described the judge’s decision to sentence him to 4 years and 9 months as “mild.”

The parents reported him missing around 11:30 p.m. Ludwigsburg police launched a major search involving helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs, including cadaver dogs, with up to 40 units deployed. At the same time, firefighters, DRK, THW, and other forces were deployed. The search focused on the area around Renningen and extended to nearby spots like Malmsheim.
On Friday, June 19, around 1:45 p.m., search teams found the lifeless body of an infant near the Rankbach stream, between Renningen and Malmsheim. Police stated it was very likely the missing boy based on circumstances, though formal identification was pending.
The grandmother of Gino said: “My daughter came home from shopping, she had bags with her and wanted to take them up to the 2nd floor.”
An autopsy has not been publicly released and an investigation remains ongoing. Police are trying to ascertain if the suspect may have been following the mother as she walked home or if he or she came upon the child and kidnapped and murdered him by chance.
The investigation is being led by Ludwigsburg Criminal Police under Stuttgart prosecutors. They are probing all angles.
