A Queensland man has been hailed as a hero after taking down an alleged peeping Tom he caught spying on his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter.
Chad Hillier shared videos of the incident, which occurred in Meridan Plains on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday night, and a photo of him standing over the man afterwards kissing his fist.
One clip shows the man lurking outside the girl’s bedroom window, in another Mr Hillier yells at the man as his partner films before loud banging noises can be heard and he tells her “call the cops babe”, and a third shows a man being taken into custody by police.
“Look out for your neighbours everyone! Girl in window was only 13,” Mr Hillier wrote in the caption to his social media post.
Queensland Police confirmed that officers were called to a home in the suburb at 9.14pm after reports a neighbour had detained a prowler, and arrested a 30-year-old man.
The man was later charged with two counts of trespass and one count of observations in breach of privacy, and is due to appear in Caloundra Magistrates Court on July 30.
Mr Hillier has since been praised by other Aussies, who thanked him for taking action and described him as a hero.
“Aussie legend, you’ve just set the standard for all men of Australia in how to care for their neighbours! Hope your neighbour realises how lucky they are to have you mate! Love ya work,” one man said.
“Well done Chad one less predator. The world needs more people like you,” said another.
“Well done brother, people like that deserve to be lock up for life, honestly if was me catching him he wouldn’t be walking,” remarked a third man.
The incident comes amid growing calls for Queensland to bring in Castle Law to give homeowners defending their property greater legal protection, with a petition to state parliament late last year signed by 110,000 people.
