Aussies have expressed their shock at the state of a Kmart store in a multicultural western Sydney suburb, with many blaming mass immigration.
A local resident shared a short clip on Instagram on Friday with the caption “Kmart Blacktown gets progressively worse every time I go”.
The video shows items dumped all over the floor in a children’s shoe aisle and a stationery aisle, and many of the products appear to have been ripped open, or tried on but not put back.
Hundreds of commenters shared their disgust at the scenes inside the store, but some said the situation was unsurprising in Blacktown, where a majority of residents were born overseas, and Indians are the largest immigrant group.
“Import the third world, become the third world,” read one popular comment.
“It used to be the best Kmart ever, so sad to see it now,” said another.
“Funny, I don’t remember this behaviour growing up, must be someone new,” said a second local.
“Go at night and you’ll find it hard to believe you’re shopping in Australia and not the third world,” said another.
But some claimed the store had always been a mess, and said Kmarts in other parts of Sydney were even worse.
“I once went to Bankstown Kmart, Bankstown makes Blacktown look pristine,” said one, referring to a notorious suburb in a Muslim-dominated area.
“The Blacktown store has always been known to be a tip,” wrote another, and a third replied: “Was a tip 30 years ago. Some things never change.”
At the time of the 2021 Census, the suburb of Blacktown was just 43.6% Australian-born, with 16.6% born in India, 5.5% in the Philippines, and 2.4% in China, and just 39.3% spoke only English at home.
Since being elected in 2022, the Albanese Labor government has presided over record-high levels of mass immigration, with net overseas migration of more than 1.6 million and most migrants settling in the outer suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne.
