French President Emmanuel Macron will be in Gdańsk for the Polish-French summit to discuss defense and security, energy, and culture.
Intergovernmental consultations will be held between ministers from both countries, and Macron will meet personally with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. There is, however, no planned meeting between Macron and Polish President Karol Nawrocki, reports Do Rzeczy. Polsat News journalist Grzegorz Urbanek has also claimed that Nawrocki’s entourage has been pushing for such a meeting.
“Donald Tusk was very keen to prevent a meeting between President Karol Nawrocki and Emmanuel Macron. There were no strong efforts, but there was a willingness on the part of the Presidential Palace to ensure such a meeting took place, which is natural since the president of France is visiting and we are discussing treaty issues and mutual guarantees,” Urbanek said on the program “On the Other Side.”
A source at the Élysée Palace told the Polish Press Agency, quoted by Do Rzeczy, that the French leader will be accompanied by the ministers responsible for defense, foreign affairs, culture, and energy. The delegation will consist of Catherine Vautrin, Jean-Noël Barrot, Catherine Pégard, and Maud Brégeon.
In the context of security, the Élysée Palace representative recalled that the Treaty of Nancy contains a mutual military support clause, similar to those France has signed with its closest partner countries. Other topics of discussion will include strengthening Europe’s industrial base and defense capabilities, as well as NATO’s role in the current security situation.
