‘The girls say that they are approached by young men of Arab descent’ – Foreign sex gangs targeting girls across Austria, 5 victims dead in only 2 months

Britain’s grooming gangs, where authorities turned a blind eye to thousands of girls abused by drugs and sexual exploitation, have come to Austria, and the impact has been fatal.

In Innsbruck, young girls are being driven into drug addiction and prostitution, with three teens, aged 13, 14, and 16, dying due to suspected overdoses since just this last February. In the case of the youngest, the autopsy revealed that she had died after consuming several hard drugs, including cocaine, opiates, and psychotropic medications.

Klaus Kapelari, the medical director of the Violence Protection Competence Center, told the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper, quoted by Freilich Magazin: “All three girls knew each other. They were in the same group of friends,” a circle reportedly known for being made up of vulnerable girls who get hooked on drugs and are then forced to perform sexual acts to obtain more drugs they cannot afford.

“First, the victims receive cheap drugs, then they are asked to send explicit photos in return,” Klaus told the paper. Some end up falling unconscious from their drug use. Others end up dead. Either way, they are caught up in a vicious circle that grooming gangs in Innsbruck exploit.

There have been five deaths in total since the end of February, including the three minors.

Innsbruck’s main train station acts as a central hub where girls from difficult backgrounds or under state care services are targeted. The mother of the 13-year-old also placed blame on the authorities for failing to protect her daughter, according to the Heute newspaper.

A similar crisis is found in Salzburg, where one 14-year-old described one-room apartments strewn with mattresses, where girls in the “train station clique” are given drugs in exchange for sex. But the reality is, these girls are preyed on, targeted, given drugs, including heroin, until addiction sets in, then forced to perform sex when they inevitably need more. “I was aware of three men doing things to me,” she reported. “I want people to understand that all of this is real.”

Out of fear, many victims don’t report the crimes, while the perpetrators often know where the girls live and sometimes even confiscate their identification.

Vienna has fallen victim, too, with girls often targeted by Arab men in Salzburg. According to media reports cited by Freilich, seven people under the age of 18, who were in the care of the Child and Youth Welfare Office (MA 11), died as a result of drug abuse in 2025. Belinda Plattner, head of child and adolescent psychiatry in Salzburg, warned: “The girls say that they are approached at Salzburg’s main train station by young men of Arab descent who offer them drugs and promise them more drugs in Vienna.”

“The girls are often persuaded to stay for several days. They serve the men tea and live with them. Initially, the men show them respect, but often this leads to sexual abuse and very demeaning behavior towards the girls,” Plattner said.

In response to the recent deaths, the Tyrolean state government is now creating three new 24/7 care places for drug-addicted minors under 14 years of age and allocating a budget of €800,000.

According to preliminary 2026 reports from the Austrian Federal Criminal Police, over 60 percent of overdose deaths among young women in trafficking contexts now involve “designer” synthetic opioids, called nitazenes.

However, Austria and the U.K. are far from the only European countries facing an epidemic of minors being abused by foreign gangs.

There are an estimated 20,000 minor prostitutes in France.

An incredible 75 percent come from the child welfare system (ASE). In other words, children are being directly recruited from state-run child welfare shelters.

Child prostitution in France has risen by 43 percent over the past four years, with police identifying “younger and younger girls” being trafficked. Chinese, North African, Balkan nationals, and Nigerian networks are some of the biggest traffickers of young girls in the country.
