A shocking and brutal case of sexual violence has once again rocked Spain. This time, a 21-year-old African man is accused of breaking into the motorhome of a 44-year-old German tourist in the Spanish city of Almería and beating the woman until her face was disfigured.
The African had attempted to rape the woman at knifepoint on June 21 at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the mouth of the Andarax River, which leads to the open ocean. When she resisted, he punched her relentlessly and cut her face open multiple times. He also wielded a stick which he used to beat the woman across the body. Due to the woman’s resistance, the man was unable to achieve penetration.
The woman was only saved after a motorist heard screams and intervened. He found the man half-naked on top of the woman and he began honking his horn to scare the man away, according to Spanish news outlet Diaro del Almeria.

The African fled into a nearby bush while the police arrived on scene. The woman was transported to the local hospital in Almería and was treated for severe injuries, as well as examined by a forensics unit.
Meanwhile, police conducted a search of the nearby area and one of the officers found the man hiding in a bush. The suspect raced to the ocean but after about 100 meters, he began to sink in the water and showed signs of drowning.
Five officers stripped to their boxers and raced into the water to save the suspect’s life. On shore, he vomited out water and began breathing again. However, the extremely exhausting ordeal of saving the man’s life left all five officers in need of medical support.
The suspect was also treated in hospital and then charged with assault and sexual assault. It is unclear if the man is of Senegalese or Gambian origin.
