Fight Involving 100 Teens Erupts Saturday at AFRAM; 2 Officers Assaulted

Two Baltimore Police officers were assaulted Saturday night during the 50th annual AFRAM after a fight broke out between about 100 teenagers.

Neither officer was injured, according to Lindsey Elkridge, chief of media relations for the Baltimore Police Department. No arrests were made, and the festival continued uninterrupted.

But for a few tense minutes, it appeared that matters could escalate.

Elkridge said backups were called at 7:59 p.m. after juveniles began to throw bottles and other objects at officers stationed at the cultural and music festival in Druid Hill Park.

In addition, officers in backup units were instructed to bring their riot gear.
